Maurice Laban’s travels

British freelance illustrator Maurice Laban (1912-1970) created posters during the 1940’s through to the 1960’s.

In 1959 he drew a series of illustrations of various countries from Europe. The now vintage illustrations represent the national costume, iconic buildings and other stereotypes of the countries. They were printed using the serigraphy (silkscreen) process and fluorescent opaque inks which results in an incredible intensity of color.

He later imagined a very useful booklet for BP, a Conversation Guide for the motorist on his or her travels. The driver who may have had a question about a chassis, a tyre pump, something to buy at a BP service station or a speedometer, could reach within and find the right word in 12 languages...

A good occasion to plan your next holiday trip as today’s marks the first day of summer...
