Ace Hotel DTLA

Concept and interior design for Ace Hotel located in Downtown Los Angeles. Scope included the restoration of the historically landmarked United Artists theatre and the conversion of the adjacent office tower, both commissioned by actor Mary Pickford in 1927. The concept brought together the excesses and hedonism of 1920’s Hollywood and the resurgence of modernism in Los Angeles through the work of architect Rudolf Schindler, with a dash of irreverence from the LA Punk movement of the 1980’s. To localize the project all custom furnishings were produced in California, and by extension Mexico, and a group of local artists and artisans were recruited to add a handcrafted dimension to the project.
