Originally founded in 1972 by Texas tennis legends Jack Turpin, Tut Bartzen, and Clarence Mabry, T Bar M Racquet Club is a storied destination for both recreational and competitive tennis. After acquiring the property, WoodHouse envisioned a new chapter for the club — one that would transform it into a social club beyond tennis. The new clubhouse and pool pavilion bring together an ambitious mix of restaurants and bars, lounges, event spaces, retail, and wellness facilities.

Lake Flato’s architecture grounds the project in the Texan vernacular through generous overhangs, wood cladding and references to metal shed structures. Outdoor terraces extend the social spaces into Hocker Design’s landscape, blurring the line between inside and out.

For the furnishings and interiors, we looked to the heyday of American country and tennis clubs, drawing from both the graphic language of sport and the warmth of the classic country club. The colors and pattern maintain a sense of play, while the wood keeps the spaces elevated. Throughout, details reference tennis without becoming literal: circular motifs scaled from a tennis ball, striped patterns inspired by court markings, clay-colored concrete floors, racquet-strung reception seating, and felt-lined walls in a private dining room conceived as a Trophy Room, showcasing memorabilia from the club's history.

Furnishings developed in collaboration with Stellar Works sit alongside pieces from Michael Boyd and Luteca. We partnered with Guadalajara’s Cerámica Suro to develop custom glazed lava tiles that appear throughout the project, including the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Outdoor furnishings by Garza Marfa reinforce the club's regional roots, while a multimedia frieze by Texas-born artist Malcolm Hill anchors the dining room.
